Malverne Takes on Disney

Long Island Area High School Musicians Become Stars of Their Own Disney Show with Performance at Walt Disney World Resort

Malverne band and choir of 126 students takes part in Disney Performing Arts programs at Magic Kingdom Park

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Feb. 16, 2016) – Malverne (New York) High School band students entertained thousands of Walt Disney World Resort guests with their performances on Feb. 12 and 13 at Magic Kingdom Park.

Under the direction of band director Glen Johnson, the “Pride of Malverne” put on an instrumental pre-parade show, marching past beloved Cinderella’s Castle while playing songs and cadences. Meanwhile, under the direction of choir director Ken Zagare, the Select Choir performed a medley of songs that featured “Somebody to Love” by the classic rock band Queen.

During their three-day stay, the Malverne students also enjoyed time in the four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks.

The 93 band students and 33 choir students in grades 9-12 traveled over a thousand miles from New York to Florida to participate in the popular Disney Performing Arts program. This was the group’s first visit to Walt Disney World Resort.

Vocal, instrumental and dance ensembles from all around the world apply to perform each year as part of Disney Performing Arts at both Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort. Once selected, they are given the opportunity to perform at Disney for an international audience of theme park guests. Millions of performers have graced the stages of Disney Parks since the Disney Performing Arts program was launched more than 25 years ago.
